Blue Flag on Kvarner
Certificate for environmental awareness, water quality, safety and services

Visitors to Kvarner need no reassurance about the area's environmental awareness and the high level of beach equipment, because proof is visible wherever one goes. But for those who prefer formal certificates, we are pleased to confirm that ca. forty locations on Kvarner have been awarded the international Blue Flag.

Without the intention to individually list all the beaches that were awarded the Blue Flag, let us just say that there are two Blue Flags in the Lovran area, three in Opatija, ca. fifteen on the island of Krk, five on the islands of Cres and Lošinj, two on the island of Rab, ca. ten on the Rivieras of Crikvenica and Novi Vinodolski etc. Blue Flags have also been awarded to three marinas on Kvarner.
Let us remind that the international Blue Flag is awarded to beaches and marinas as part of the programme for environmental protection of the coastal areas that has been successfully carried out for 17 years in Europe and since last two years in several non-European countries. The Blue Flag Programme is owned and run by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), and the programme coordinator in Croatia is the Lijepa naša friends of nature movement.
The Blue Flag beach criteria are environmental education and information, water quality, environmental management, as well as safety and services. The Blue Flag marina criteria are environmental education and information, environmental management, safety and services, and water quality. This year there are 146 Blue Flags in Croatia.
