Mali Lošinj
International award for the media promotion of the destination

At the awards ceremony in mid-October in Split, the Town of Mali Lošinj Tourism Office was awarded the Golden Interstas for a special contribution to tourism – an international award for media promotion of the destination. The Tourism Office earned this prize with its stand dedicated to the "The Scents and Tastes of Lošinj" theme.

This stand was used to promote Mali Lošinj at three specialised international cultural and educational-ecological fairs: the 15th International Festival of Tourism, the 11th International Festival of Tourism Film ITF' CRO, and the 7th presentation of Croatian towns and villages for the Entente Florale Europe 2009 Competition.
The Mali Lošinj Tourism Office and the Garden of Fine Scents have been developing the project entitled "The Scents and Tastes of Lošinj" for two years. This event is dedicated to indigenous plants of the area and products made of them, such as flower arrangements, liqueurs, juices or cakes, as well as gastronomic specialities made using typical plants of the island. The event includes participation of not only the whole town of Mali Lošinj, but also of local campsites, hotels, tourist agencies, restaurants etc. This month's Scents and Tastes of Lošinj are dedicated to olive, and the scents of December are pine and agave.
The Garden of Fine Scents was opened to the public in 2005 as a replica of the traditional gardens of Lošinj. It covers an area of ca. 3500 square metres and includes about seventy plant species typical of the island, such as sage, oregano, immortelle, thyme, St. John's wort, olive, or fig. The Garden of Fine Scents also displays fine examples of dry-stone walls as a symbol of rural island architecture. In addition to the guided tour of the garden, visitors are encouraged to buy original souvenirs, flower potpourri, medicinal teas, essential oils and other typical products.

The director of the Mali Lošinj Tourism Office Ms. Đurđica Šimičić receives the Golden Interstas award in the company of (from right to left) Mr. Antonio Conte, president of the European Federation of Tourism Journalists, Mr. Božidar Čapalija, vice-mayor of Split, and Vojko Pleština, president of Interstas's board of directors.
