Increased number of tourists and day-trippers
Gorski kotar, a mountainous area in the west of Croatia, is becoming an increasingly interesting tourist destination. So it's no wonder that the number of visitors to this region has been growing at an annual rate of 10%, underlining how Gorski kotar offers its visitors beautiful nature and clean air, great possibilities for excursions, sports and recreation, and a gastronomic offer based on the local cuisine's specialities.
In the first nine month of the year, Gorski kotar was visited by 21,000 tourists, five thousand of which from abroad. About 77 thousand overnight stays were recorded, 14 thousand by foreign guests. This means an increase in tourism turnover of 11 percent with respect to the first nine month of 2007 (the average increase rate in the last few years was 10 percent). Since ski season is approaching, it is expected that until the end of the year, Gorski kotar will reach the number of about 100 thousand overnights.
Most sought-after accommodation facilities – we speak about 1800 beds – are detached houses and apartments, then hotel rooms, and finally private rooms. Over the last few years, significant amounts were invested in increasing accommodation quality and bringing it to the present high level. The attractions of Gorski kotar, a region equally interesting at any time of the year, include the growing number of facilities and services offered, carefully planned holiday programmes, and very good traffic connections with the rest of Croatia and Europe. This is probably the reason why Gorski kotar is visited by ca. 100,000 day-trippers each year. It should be said that Gorski kotar is very close to the sea, therefore if you are looking for a combination of mountain and seaside holiday – Gorski kotar is the right place for you!
