Ideal ski area for families and recreational skiers

The Platak ski area, unique for its location and the fact that from the top of the ski lift (1363 m) skiers can enjoy a wonderful view of the sea, starts the new season with an improved artificial snow system, renovated baby lift, snowmobile opportunities, and a packed calendar of events. Some great skiing is expected on Platak this season!

Platak, located close to the harbour town of Rijeka, is a favourite destination of many skiers who love daytime or night skiing on slopes that offer a very special experience – the view of the coastal towns of Rijeka and Opatija. At the beginning of 2009 Platak will host several skiing competitions including the Croatian Slalom and Giant Slalom Championship for girls and boys (15th and 16th January) and the County of Primorje-Gorski kotar Open Giant Slalom Ciciban Championship (24th January). The International FIS Adriatic Slalom will take place at the end of the ski season, on the 27th and the 28th of March.

Platak ski area was built in the mid 20th century and features seven ski runs, one of them being particularly suitable for children (the so-called baby slope). The total length of all ski runs is about 8,000 metres, the longest being the 3,000-metre long Radeševo Tourist Trail.

Over the last few years some significant investments have been made with the aim of modernising the Platak ski area, which now includes several eating establishments, cross-country ski run, and ski and snowboard schools, thus being an ideal ski area for families and recreational skiers.

Platak is also interesting in other seasons as an attractive destination for all people who enjoy hiking, mountain climbing, mountain biking and beautiful views of the surrounding area.
