Island of Rab
120 years of tourism

In 2009, the town of Rab on the island of the same name celebrates a very particular anniversary – 120 years of tourism, which officially started on a precise date: the 16th of May 1889. This date will be the central celebration of a series of events lasting throughout the year. Now you have an additional reason to visit this beautiful Kvarner island!

The island of Rab will celebrate its 120th anniversary of tourism with a series of cultural and entertainment programmes and events, as well as a conference dedicated to tourism. The Knežev dom gallery will host the exhibition covering the development of tourism on the island of Rab. Music lovers will certainly be delighted with the concert by the famous prima donna Dunja Vejzović. Rab's main square will host performances by Croatian music stars, traditional singing groups and folklore ensembles. Indispensable on such solemn occasions are performances by the Rab crossbowmen and boat drivers – two symbols of this island.
The central event to mark the 120th anniversary of tourism will be a ceremonial ceremony attended by the leaders of the island's tourism boards, local self-government, Rab's largest Imperial Company and others. This will be the opportunity to view some video recordings about the present and the past of the island of Rab, to analyse the actual situation in the island's tourism, and to discuss the plans for the future. However, this two-day event will be only the highlight of a celebration that will last whole year. New properties, well-tended beaches and promenades, higher standard of services: these are going to be greatest presents for the island's 120th anniversary. You are most warmly invited!
