Brod Moravice
New attraction for cyclists

The beginning of spring always stimulates us to explore the countryside, engage in some recreational activities and enjoy the fresh air. Gorski kotar is the ideal region for this, and its smallest but also oldest municipality now has a special reason to invite you: the completion of its cycling and hiking tracks project.

After completion, this cycle path will include 30 control points with information about height above sea level and other useful data, passing through wonderful landscape in the valley of River Kupa up to the control points at an altitude of 750 metres. Interpretation boards will inform visitors about significant cultural and historical sites, making this round of Brod Moravice even more interesting. It should be said that this area has several valuable religious buildings and ethno-monuments, most important being the oldest house in the whole Gorski kotar region – the Delač House, built in 1644 and protected by the Croatian Ministry of Culture as a monument of culture. This single-storey house has been renovated as an ethnographic and ethnologic museum. In the hamlet of Delači there is the Ožanić House from the year 1826. The second oldest house in this area, Mance House from 1740, is located in the village of Kutli. This raised ground-floor house has a well-preserved inventory.
Let us remind you that this area offers great opportunities for sporting and recreational activities: sport fishing and kayak or canoe ride on River Kupa.
The Municipality of Brod Moravice is located in the north-eastern part of the County of Primorje-Gorski kotar (the Kvarner region), more precisely in the western part of Gorski kotar, at an altitude of 560 metres. Geographical characteristics, history and the customs of this oldest municipality of Gorski kotar determine the course of many activities that take place here throughout the year. In February, this area hosts a cross-country skiing competition and various carnival events. In May there are traditional boccie and football tournaments, and on the sixth Sunday after Easter, locally known as the Breška nedelja, mountaineers and other nature lovers make a tour of old villages, enjoying beautiful nature and attend the holy mass in the small church of St. Lucy. Evening on Lazica is the title of a series of entertainment programmes with excellent gastronomic offer that take place in July and August. August is a particularly cheerful period in Brod Moravice. On the 16th of August, there is a traditional municipal celebration with sports competitions, picture exhibitions, dance evenings and folk festivals. The Golden Kettle is the name of the traditional deer stew cooking competition in September. In the same month there is also a festival aimed at preserving old customs of the region that includes preparation of local plum products, entertainment programmes, specialist conferences and much more. The culmination of the festival is the choice of the best products – marmalade and brandy.
