Mali Lošinj
Laurel, rosemary and eucalyptus for health, peace and right decisions

The scents of the month for March in Mali Lošinj, a famous holiday resort on the island of Lošinj, which is now promoted with the slogan "Lošinj – the Island of Vitality", will be rosemary, laurel and eucalyptus. The fine scents programme also includes the presentation of food, cosmetics and other goods produced from these aromatic plants. Whether you need a break before making important decisions, are in search of your own peace, or simply want to stop for a minute, the fine scents of Lošinj will help you do just that.

Tourists visiting Mali Lošinj – a renowned holiday resort on the island of Lošinj, righteously advertised for as the "Island of Vitality" – in March will have the opportunity to learn more about three useful and interesting aromatic plants: rosemary, laurel and eucalyptus, and to taste some dishes and preparations made with these plants. Rosemary (scientific name Rosmarinus officinalis L.) is an evergreen Mediterranean shrub used as spice, to produce essential oil, and also as attractive decoration. It grows in the coastal areas and is associated with Aphrodite, the goddess of love. The name comes from the Latin ros marinus, meaning dew of the sea. It is widely used as spice, but it also has curative properties – it helps with digestive disturbances, aching muscles and joints, vascular problems etc.

Laurel has always been used as spice. In antiquity it was respected as a holy tree, and laurel wreaths were given to the winners of the Olympic Games and poets as a sign of highest appreciation. Today it is widely used in cooking as spice for game, fish and poultry dishes, as well as for sauces and marinades.

Eucalyptus (scientific name Eucalyptus globulus), originally from Tasmania and Australia, can reach a height of up to 80 metres. It is used in medicine (reduces temperature, has antibacterial and antiviral effects, its oil helps with rheumatic diseases, etc.).

March is the month when rosemary is in bloom, and laurel is in leaf, so you can rest assured that a fragrant stroll through the Čikat Park Forest to Bocca Falsa or along the Lungomare coastal promenade from Mali Lošinj to Veli Lošinj will have beneficial effect of your physical and psychical health. In the time when the world is globally facing big decisions and the need to find some new solutions, and the same applies to all of us individually, be sure that the fragrant scent of laurel and rosemary, and the eucalyptus tea, will help you make the right decision more easily and successfully.

Visitors to Mali Lošinj had the opportunity to enjoy numerous gastronomic specialities made with rosemary and laurel and refresh themselves with eucalyptus tea within the 1. Fragrant Festival, which took place on the 7th of March. Some beauty salons also offer treatments with preparations based on these medicinal herbs.
