When visiting Kvarner this year, you will undoubtedly face a curious dilemma: what to choose from the wide range of events and festivals taking place! Kvarner's calendar of events for the year 2009 is simply too extensive, so choosing what to visit is definitely not going to be an easy task...
From the 3rd to the 5th of April, Opatija invites you to the Coffee Break Festival, an event that brings together coffee producers and distributors, coffee bar owners, and all other companies and people involved in coffee distribution, equipment production and sales. For all coffee lovers, this will be a great opportunity to learn more about and sample their favourite beverage.
Lovran invites you to visit Asparagus Festival in the period between the 4th and the 12th of April. During the event, Lovran's restaurants and taverns will serve dishes made of this healthy plant, which is both cultivated and wild-growing in the area. The closing ceremony will include the making of a giant omelette with 30 kg of asparagus and 1000 eggs in a 2-metre pan.
In the second half of April, on Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th, Lokve in Gorski kotar will host the traditional Frog Night, an event dedicated to frogs and people living in the area. The highlight of the festival is the frog jumping competition – a very unique and memorable event…
From the 25th to the 27th of April, Mali Lošinj will host the Apoxyomenos Festival – an event dedicated to the antique bronze statue of the Greek athlete that was pulled out from the seabed in the waters off Lošinj in 1999. The statue is 192 centimetres high, more than two thousand years old, and one of the seven preserved such statues discovered so far in the world.
"Black Sheep" is the name of the event that takes place in Baška on the island of Krk in May aimed at combining all the benefits of staying in this renowned holiday resort: beautiful nature, activity holidays, entertainment programmes, delicious local lamb, and good wine.
In the period from the 3rd to the 11th of May, Rijeka will host the traditional International Small Scenes Theatre Festival that brings together theatres and theatre groups from several European countries. Performances will be staged in The Croatian House of Culture (HKD) and on various alternative venues in the town.
The Rijeka Summer Nights Festival starts on the 30th of June and will last until the end of July. This is a cultural event with stage, musical and other performances by various artists on town squares, in cultural institutions, and on alternative stages.
