Rab
The central celebration to mark the 120th anniversary of tourism takes place in mid-May

The events marking the 120th anniversary of tourism on the island of Rab will last throughout the year. However, the central celebration will take place in May and includes a series of cultural performances, sporting competitions and other events.

To mark the Day of Town of Rab on the 9th of May, there will be a ceremonial academy and a knight tournament in the evening, organised by the Association of Rab Crossbowmen on the central St. Christopher Square. Folklore performance by the Rapski tanac cultural society is scheduled for the 12th of May, on the eve of the central celebration, which will start in the evening on the 13th of May with a charity concert by the Croatian prima donna Dunja Vejzović, accompanied on piano by Đorđe Stanetti. Two days later there will be a conference entitled "Tourism on the island of Rab", with two artistic events in the evening hours: festival of Rab singing groups and opening of the exhibition of photographs of the island of Rab. On the 16th of May – the day that is celebrated as the official beginning of tourism on the island – there will be a ceremonial conference of the Rab Tourism Board, including the presentation of the Association of Rab Crossbowmen. The exhibition "Art Photographs of the Island of Rab" will be opened on the same day, as well as a newly refurbished beach as a symbol of bathing tourism on the island. In the evening there will be entertainment programme with folklore, brass band music, and pop music singers. This will be the end of the official celebration of the 120th anniversary, although all other events in the town of Rab and throughout the island in this year will also remind visitors of this great anniversary.

On the 16th of May 1889, the Rab Municipality Council declared the town a holiday and health resort. This decision was based on the awareness of beneficial effects of the local climate on heart and respiratory diseases. Renowned for its mild Mediterranean climate and lush vegetation, beautiful nature, rich history and high-quality tourism offer, Rab has won several awards as the best holiday resort on the Adriatic. Today, Rab is a favourite destination of many guests from Croatia and abroad.
