Gorski kotar
Enjoy the fruits of the mountains!

City life has many advantages, but it also alienates us from nature. To make up for what you've missed, we invite you to participate in a series of events entitled Fruits of the Mountains, which are organised in Gorski kotar – a continental region immediately beside the sea. The scope of this recreational-educational campaign is to invite visitors to a pleasant, interesting and eventful break in the midst of nature.

The wooded region of Gorski kotar, known for its wonderful nature and healthy food, is becoming increasingly popular among visitors throughout the year. In the wintertime, visitors mostly come here for skiing, sledging and enjoying fresh air, and in other periods for hiking or cycling, but also to learn more about local customs and way of living.

From May to October, visitors are invited to participate in the interesting educational-recreational programme entitled "Fruits of the Mountains", which gives them the chance to learn more about local nature, taste original dishes, and visit some of the natural and cultural landmarks of the region. The calendar of events is directly connected to the period of ripening of individual fruits: the Day of Lilies is scheduled for mid-May, and the Day of Spruce, including a tour of the Leska educational trail, a lecture about the curative properties of spruce, and the exhibition and sampling of spruce produces, will be celebrated at the end of May. Festival of fragrant wild strawberries and produces made of them is scheduled for mid-June. After that come the days of elder, medicinal plants, raspberries, blueberries, mushrooms, potatoes, and apples at the beginning of October. Each of the mentioned programmes includes educational lectures, workshops, and food preparation and sampling, so there is no doubt that visitors will enjoy and remember these events for a long period of time.
