9th Asparagus Festival in Lovran
Invitation to taste some unique delicacies
From the 4th to the 19th of April, the tourist resort of Lovran, located on the Opatija Riviera, will host the 9th Asparagus Festival. The culmination of this event will be a big party on the last day of the festival with a varied entertainment programme and the preparation of a giant omelette made using this healthy, wild-growing plant.
Wild growing asparagus is a well-known and healthy gastronomic delicacy whose specific taste comes from the combination of sea and mountain air. There are various recipes for preparing asparagus, but the most common is omelette with scrambled eggs, asparagus and pršut home-cured ham.
During this year's Asparagus Festival, which traditionally attracts many visitors not only from Lovran but from the whole Opatija Riviera, Lovran's hotels, restaurants, taverns, bistros and cafes will offer dishes made using this tasty and healthy plant.
The festival is organised by a special board consisting of representatives of the Municipality of Lovran and the Lovran Tourism Office, which is, together with the Lovran Catering Association, also the executive organiser of the event.
Asparagus has been known since ancient times for its healing properties and as an excellent diuretic. In the coastal parts of Croatia asparagus grows wild; here it has a special taste and an even more beneficial effect on health.
