Entente Florale Europe
Jury delighted with Mali Lošinj
The final results of the Entente Florale Europe will only be made known in September, after the international jury has visited all the candidates, but already the jury's members have made no attempt to conceal how delighted they were with the Croatian candidate, the town of Mali Lošinj.
The president of the jury, Monika Hetch from Austria, said at the press conference: The first thing that we noticed was the fact that Lošinj is a green island. We had the chance to learn more about this island and see what it offers to its inhabitants in terms of landscape preservation in the town area. We were particularly impressed with the amount of respect with which the inhabitants and their guests treat their natural surroundings. The Tastes and Scents of Lošinj project is extraordinary, for we really could feel the real scent of the Mediterranean here. Mali Lošinj has many ecological projects, which also include participation of young people. The town is very clean, and we are very glad because of that. The care given to cultural heritage and architecture is visible wherever one goes.
The Entente Florale Europe international jury, which includes representatives of 12 countries – members of the European Flowers and Landscape Association – stayed in Mali Lošinj for two days. The reason for that is the candidature of this famous holiday resort on the island of Lošinj for the prestigious Entente Florale award in the villages category.
Although the members of the jury have made no attempt to hide how delighted they were with the town itself, its cleanliness, flowers and luxuriant vegetation, as well as the hospitality of their hosts, one must wait a little longer for the final decision. The results of the competition will be made known on the 25th of September in Cardiff at the presentation ceremony for the golden, silver and bronze Entente Florale 2009 award.
