Many events in 2008

Alike in previous years, many programs and events are prepared for guests and locals in the Kvarner region in 2008.
In addition to well know carnival manifestations which take place in the entire Kvarner region during January and beginning of February, Kvarner and its regional centres are organizing  numerous attractive manifestations in which everyone will find something to their liking.

We are highlighting just some from the rich annual program. On 27 January traditionally held on the streets of Opatija is Balinjerada, street race of home-made vehicles which use ball-bearings (balinjere) instead of wheels.
From 29 February until 2 March in Mrkopolje in Gorski kotar, every other Saturday in January and in February, giant slalom cup is held, and international competitions of ski sprinters “Platak Open Ski Sprint” is held on ski course Platak above Rijeka.
March is the Month of open wellness doors in Opatija and month which marks the Days of Lošinj gastronomy. Concerts are held on Easter and Easter Monday on 23 and 24 March throughout the County.
From 18 to 20 April, Mali Lošinj is organizing a sailing regatta for deaf and hearing-impaired titled 'With wind through the silence'', the first project of its kind in Europe, and on last weekend in April, Lokve is organizing Žabarska noć (Frog-eaters night), traditional manifestation which celebrates frogs and people of Lokve region, and which culminates in a special frog-jump competition.
At the beginning of May, Rijeka is the host to one of the most prestigious theatre events in the region.
The fifteenth in a row International festival of small stages is the festival of strong conceptual guidelines and very lively atmosphere, and competitive character of the festival gathers numerous theatres from Europe and from around the world.
On the second weekend in May, ''Black sheep'' and  Vihor CUP – sailing regatta are held in Baška on the island of Krk. 'Black sheep'' is a gastro-music-sports weekend which offers enjoying of nature, relaxation for the mind, exhibitions and expert lectures on sailing and active holidays for mountaineers and cyclists.
In the middle of June every year, Opatija organizes costume manifestation ''Greetings from  Opatija'' – K.&K. postcard which depicts the period of the Austrian Hungarian monarchy, when emperors, kings, princess, grand dukes, aristocracy, counts and famous artists were walking the streets of Opatija.
In June and July, on Rijeka squares, in cultural institutions and at location of former Paper factory and Torpedo factory, for the fifth time in a row, Rijeka summer nights are held, musical-dramatic festival organized by the Croatian National Theatre Ivana pl. Zajca, Town of  Rijeka and the Tourist Board of Rijeka.
For 16 years now, the first weekend in July in Opatija is reserved for the world jazz elite who gather at the prestigious Liburnia Jazz Festival, and international summer festival is held on the same weekend in Novi Vinodolski.
On the island of Rab, on 9 May, 25 June, 27 July and 15 August cross-bowers from Rab perform on antic cross bows, and during those days Rab comes alive with many interesting programs.
Central cultural event of Rab, medieval summer festival 'Rabska fjera' from 24 until 28 July unites many historical events with an old knights’ game from the 14th century with which Rab residents revive the memory of Rab long time ago which celebrated its freedom and independent municipality.
On the last weekend in August, Days of Wine of the island of Krk are held in Vrbnik. This educational-entertaining manifestation connects the wine lovers from all over Croatia, organizes tasting, presentations, sale of wine, expert lectures and exhibition of winery and wine-growing equipment.
In September, the 3rd International spa and wellness fair is held in Opatija and in October the 4th  Jazz Ex tempore at which eminent artists from many countries play music together for a week.
In November, Delnice in Gorski kotar presents offer by their caterers and producers of healthy foods at the Goranski gastro-weekend, and on 11 November, St. Martin’s holiday is celebrated with baptizing of young wine.
In December, just like in 2007, there are rich advent programs, Christmas performances and New Year’s celebrations on squares, in hotels and restaurants.
