Selce
115 years of tourism

The beginning of August is always particularly ceremonial in the seaside resort of Selce, as this is when Selce celebrates its tourism anniversary. This year there's a particular reason for that: the 115th anniversary of Selce as holiday resort!

Although the first visitors came to Selce as early as 1880, the official beginning of tourism was on the 4th of August 1894 – the date when the first wooden bathing area was opened to the public. The merit for this goes to the inhabitants of Selce who founded the Sea Baths Association and opened the first swimming baths. At the beginning of the 20th century, numerous villas were built, some of which are still in the function of tourism. Everything that happened after that in Selce meant further improvement of the quality of tourism in this holiday resort where visitors can choose from a wide range of accommodation facilities, fine restaurants and interesting recreational and health programmes as well as a variety of excursions.
If you want to learn more about the fascinating undersea world, the members of the Mihurić diving club are at your disposal throughout the year, ready to teach you how to dive and enjoy the beautiful underwater world without endangering your safety even for a moment. In Selce you can also enjoy water skiing and other aquatic sports, hang-gliding and paragliding, mountain biking in the surrounding area, or play handball, mini-golf, bowling and much more.
Selce is also known for health tourism, most prominent health institution being the Terme Selce that rounds up the local tourism offer. The practice for physical medicine and rehabilitation after sport injuries is the reason why Selce is visited by many famous sports people, and we can say that the experts of this institution made a great contribution to the success and duration of their sporting careers.
