Town of chocolate and sweet surprises

On the first weekend in December, the second in a row Chocolate Festival was held in Opatija, organized by the chocolate factory Kraš, Town of Opatija and Opatija Tourist Board. This unique three day manifestation has offered numerous attractive events which have attracted many guests and lovers of this irresistible treat.

Within the festival, hotels in Opatija have prepared special offer of chocolate specialities and have impressed the visitors with the finest manually made deserts, 'waterfalls' of white and black chocolate fountains, turkey medallions in honey-cake crust dipped in white chocolate and many other exotic recipes and decorations.
Thematic evening about Bajadera drew special attention, at which seven meters high Bajadera cake was presented to visitors which they later tasted with pleasure.
Kraš’s cookies 'Domaćica' have marked their 25th anniversary. Various chocolate workshops and playrooms for children were organized as well.

In addition to tasting of chocolate delicacies which Kraš masters were preparing on the spot, officials of three hotels from Opatija were presenting and selling their own praline in the coffee shops and on the streets. Hotels, restaurants and coffee shops had a special chocolate offer in their objects at promotional prices and happy hour promoting chocolate beverages. Certain restaurants were presenting unusual chocolate menus, and hotels were offering chocolate-based facial, skin treatments and massages in their wellness and spa centres.
Students of the Academy of Arts were competing in making of a sweet souvenir of Opatija, by designing chocolate sculpture of a girl with a sea gull, camellia, laurel and town’s coat of arms. Exhibition on history of chocolate was set up in gallery Šporer, and the chocolate train was driving the youngest around Opatija.
