Although already traditional, this year's Adriatic Slalom, to be held on Platak on the 7th of March, is expected to attract a considerably higher number of European skiers than ever since the race shall be held for the first time under the auspices of the European FIS Cup. Owing to its inclusion in the European competitions’ calendar Platak has found itself side by side to leading European ski centres, which will certainly contribute to the additional promotion of the favourite weekend ski centre of many Rijeka inhabitants.
Let us remind that Platak is a unique ski centre, from the top of which a marvelous view extends on the whole Kvarner, sea and islands. A lot has been invested in recent years in its infrastructure, so that it is visited by an increasing number of recreational and professional skiers, and owing to this race the best European skiers will finally get to know Platak.
A record number of competitors is expected to attend the race, not only because of the FIS patronage, but also owing to the suitable date – one week after the conclusion of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
This is also evidenced by organizers' announcements that expect the Platak race to be in fact one of the largest-scale FIS competitions in Europe, with the participation of about one hundred slalom racers from some twenty states. Besides the Croatian representatives Dalibor Šamšal and Danko Marinelli, the participation of some of the high-sounding names of European skiing is announced: Marc Gini, Jens Byggmark and Giuliano Razzoli.
The start numbers draw will be held one day earlier, on Saturday, on the Rijeka central promenade, the popular Korzo. The start of the first race on Platak is scheduled for 10.00 a.m. and of the second one at 01.00 p.m.
