Palm Sunday on the island of Rab
Lenten oratorio "Rapska klapska muka"

On Palm Sunday, choral groups from Rab traditionally give a concert in front of the Cathedral of the Assumption in the town of Rab. This year, visitors to the town and the island will have the chance to experience the unique atmosphere of the final Lenten festivities on the 28th of March at 7,30 p.m.

Like the previous years, the town of Rab will celebrate Palm Sunday with a concert by the local signing groups ("klape") who will perform the Lenten oratorio "Rapska klapska muka" in front of the Cathedral of the Assumption.

The oratorio is a part of the Lenten trilogy by the maestro from Split Ljubo Stipišić Delmata, the other two parts being "Calvary" and "Resurrection". Apart from their home island, vocal groups from Rab will perform this oratorio in other Croatian towns – Omiš, Drniš, Sv. Filip i Jakov, Poreč, Samobor, Sisak and Kampor on the island of Rab, where their tour ends.

The scenario for the concerts is based on excerpts from the Bible and verses by Croatian poets. Traditional music is performed by four vocal groups from the island of Rab – women's group Sozal and men's groups Rab, Kristofor and Eufemija. The oldest among them is the Klapa Kristofor, whose members have been presenting the extensive tradition of spiritual and secular music from Rab for the last twenty years. The other vocal groups from Rab might not have such a long tradition, but they make an equally important part of the island's musical heritage. The Klapa Rab was founded in 2004 and consists of mainly younger members; the women's Klapa Sozal was founded in 2000 and has approximately thirty members; and the distinctive feature of the Eufemija from Kampor on the island of Rab is its sacred repertoire.
