Lovran
Taste some sweet Lovran cherries

If you are a lover of cherries, you now have one more reason to visit Lovran and the entire Opatija Riviera: the particularly sweet Lovran cherries, which local chefs use to make tasty desserts. The tenth Cherries Festival is the best invitation to visit this area!

The month of June in Lovran, holiday resort only five kilometres from Opatija, is traditionally dedicated to Lovran cherries. Quite similar to the Lambert variety, Lovran cherries have gained reputation for their rich taste, juiciness and quality, and can be easily recognised by their size, colour and sweetness. It is therefore no wonder that many people like their sweet taste and cakes made with them. In Lovran, the whole month of June is dedicated to these delicious fruits, and the highlight will be the Cherry Party, when visitors in Lovran will have the chance to enjoy fresh cherries and a variety of cakes made with them, including a ten-metre long cherry strudel. This gastronomic event will be accompanied by performances of local folklore ensembles. Lovran cherries and cherry cakes can be sampled not only in Lovran, but also on the whole Opatija Riviera.
From the 15th of May to the 15th of June, the Laurus Gallery in Lovran will host the exhibition of paintings and wooden sculptures by several authors entitled "Cherry".
For those who want to improve their culinary skills, Lovran's Hotel Villa Astra organises a culinary workshop dedicated to preparing dishes with chanterelles and Lovran cherries. The chef of this restaurant will teach the participants how to prepare and decorate dishes made with chanterelles and Lovran cherries. Once the workshop is over, the participant will take home with them notes with recipes and descriptions of the cooking process, CDs with pictures, and of course, nice memories of tasty meals and good company.
