Croatia's first winner of the QualityCoast award
The island of Rab has become the winner of the prestigious international QualityCoast award, assigned by the European Coastal and Marine Union. Rab is the first Croatian member of this union and the only seaside destination in this part of Europe to have won this highly prestigious award.
The island of Rab is the winner of the renowned international QualityCoast award. In charge of this award is the European Coastal and Marine Union, an organisation which was founded by 11 EU countries with the aim of creating worldwide network of seaside destinations that share some same values in the development of sustainable tourism. The island of Rab is the first in Croatia and the only seaside destination in this part of Europe to become member of this organisation and the winner of this prestigious award.
To become member of the European Coastal and Marine Union, candidates have to meet very strict criteria, which are important for winning this prestigious international award. The members also have the opportunity to take part in the international marketing and advertising campaigns. The demanding project of applying for membership in this union was carried out by the Rab Tourist Board and supported by various local and regional organisations. The project was started at the end of last year, after which the island was visited by the Coastal and Marine Union representative, Mrs Katarina Trstenjak, who spoke highly about what she saw there. Significant support to the project was given by the Town of Rab, Elektroprimorje Rab company, Vrelo communal company, and the Priroda public institution for managing protected natural areas.
The QualityCoast awards ceremony took place on the 20th of May in Gijon in Spain.
