Summer under the stars

The renowned holiday resort of Opatija proudly presents its new summer brand – the Summer under the stars festival, which runs from the beginning of June until the end of August, offering a wide choice of superb concerts, stage performances and movies under the starry sky.

Opatija's attractive Summer under the stars festival starts on the 5th of June with the performance of the Zagreb Philharmonics featuring the flamenco singer Esperanza Fernandez and the famed Croatian pianist Lovro Pogorelić. This festival, organised by the Festival Opatija culture institution, is Opatija's new brand that runs from the beginning of June to the end of August.
During the three summer months, Opatija will host a wide range of musical events, theatrical performances and movie shows under the starry sky.
Apart from the famous Open-Air Theatre, the events will also take place on other locations across the town, and the programme guarantees many interesting moments in Opatija.
The concert of the renowned Slovenian songwriter and singer Zoran Predin and the Gipsy Swing Orchestra is scheduled for the 11th of June. Three days after that, from the 14th to the 18th of June, Opatija will host the Dox Week – documentary film festival. After movies, it's music time again: the popular Melodies of Istria and Kvarner festival is scheduled for the 19th of June, and on the 27th of June there will be a concert of the Croatian musical legend, Oliver Dragojević, accompanied by the orchestra of Rijeka's Ivan pl. Zajc Theatre.
July starts with the Liburnia Jazz Festival, which will include approximately 20 concerts during two days. The popular Croatian musical Jalta, Jalta is scheduled for the 9th of July. After that follow the performance of Croatia's best-known professional folklore ensemble, Lado, concerts by Natalie Cole, British jazzy pop attraction Matt Bianco, world-famous singer Al Jarreau, popular Croatian singer Miroslav Škoro, and the performance by the actor Rade Šerbedžija and the guitarist Miroslav Tadić, who will present their album entitled "I Have a Song for You".
The last days of the Summer under the stars festival are reserved for some further attractions: the Dox Oscar 2009 and 2010 event on the 19th and 20th of August, which will include screenings of two Oscar-winning films, and the Shaolin Kung Fu Show on the day after. The festival ends on the 28th of August with the concert by Idan Raichel Project, one of the most successful Israeli musicians of today.
