Summer on Trsat Gradina
Visitors to Rijeka, Kvarner’s largest town which continues to entice visitors with its dynamic entertainment programmes, can choose from several interesting events this year. In addition to the packed programme of the Rijeka Summer Nights Festival, the historic town of Trsat is hosting Summer on Trsat Gradina – a festival dedicated to all lovers of good movies, music and interesting theatrical plays.
Sergeant James, I speak love, Jokemafia behind the bars, State of the Nation, Exercises in style, Ready for Europe... These are just some of the film titles and original theatrical pieces that will be on programme of the Summer on Trsat Gradina in Rijeka. The festival takes place in the attractive ambience of Rijeka's historic castle, Trsat, from the beginning of July to mid-September.
The organiser of this summer event, established in 2006, is Bašćinski glasi cultural and artistic society from Rijeka. The original idea was to revitalise the medieval castle through music, words, movements and pictures, and to enrich the cultural offer of the town and the region during the tourist season. During the first four years, Trsat hosted approximately 160 programmes with 800 participants and more than 45,000 visitors. This attests to the quality of the idea and the organisation.
The programmes are based on guest performances of renowned artists from Croatia and abroad, with emphasis on the diversity of musical and theatrical genres to meet the expectations of all visitors.
After a series of events in July, the programme in August will include open-air screenings of the films Zack and Mimi Make a Porno (3rd August), Serious Man (10th August) and Broken Embraces (17th August), followed by some interesting concerts. These will include the performance of a popular Croatian traditional vocal group, Klapa Intrade (19th August), a series of concerts of various musical genres (RI Rock concert, Exclusive Jazz Night), and guest performances by some of the leading names of the Croatian musical scene such as Bambi Molesters, Darko Rundek and Hari Rončević.
The musical programme will be followed by some interesting theatrical pieces: Jokemafia behind the bars by the Mostar Theatre, Exercises in Style, and Ready for Europe by the famous comedienne from Split, Arijana Čulina.
