Rijeka Airport
New airlines at Rijeka Airport

Joint advertising programme brings flights from five distant markets to Krk

From mid-April to mid-October, every Monday and Friday Kvarner will be connected to London and Stockholm via low-cost airline Ryanair. The contract has been signed for the period of five years. The sale of tickets for flights to Rijeka Airport, located in Omišalj on the island of Krk, or for flights to London Stansted and Stockholm Skavsta, begun on the 4th of February.
In addition to these new Ryanair flights, Rijeka Airport will also receive flights of the companies Air Berlin (from and to Stuttgart, Cologne and Münster/Osnabrück) and Croatia Airlines (from London).
Although the final flight schedule for the coming season has not been defined yet, there is a chance of continuing cooperation with several other international airlines that brought passengers to Rijeka last year. These are Helvetic Airways (on the route Zurich- Rijeka-Zurich), Norwegian Air Shuttle (Oslo-Rijeka-Oslo), and Danube Wings-VIP Air, which brought passengers from the Slovakian town of Košice.
In 2010, there were also some charter lines from Tel Aviv, Vilnius and Riga. Several new companies announced their flights to Rijeka in 2011. These include Skandjet airline (flights to Stockholm and Göteborg), Smartlynx Airlines in cooperation with the tour operator Novatours (flights from Rijeka to Riga), UralAirlines in cooperation with the tour operator Ascentravel (flights to Moscow), and S.C. Compania Nationala de Transporturi Aeriene Taroma (flights to Bucharest). It is expected that these new lines will bring approximately 30,000 visitors to Kvarner.
Apart from the five-year contract between Rijeka Airport and Ryanair low cost airline, it has also been agreed that the Kvarner region will be promoted on the Ryanair website, which has ca. six million visits every day, during the same period of time.
The value of the joint advertising is 250,000 euros per year, and the costs will be borne jointly by the Croatian National Tourist Board, the Kvarner County Tourism Office, the Rijeka Tourist Board, the Town of Rijeka, and the County of Primorje-Gorski kotar.
