Opatija is preparing for the biggest meeting of philatelists ever

From the 14th to the 17th of April, Opatija will host one of this year's largest philately events – the Alpe-AdriaPhila 2011 Opatija exhibition, with some of Europe's finest philately items on display as well as many accompanying events, meetings and workshops.

The Alpe-Adria Phila 2011 Opatija philatelic exhibition, which runs from the 14th to the 17th of April, will bring to Opatija some of Europe's most renowned philately experts and enthusiasts. This will be the biggest philately event not only in Croatia, but also in the Central and South East Europe. The applications for this event, which will include not only the exhibition, but also a series of philatelic and entertainment programmes, have already exceeded all expectations. Opatija will indeed be a centre of philately for a while.
The exhibition will be displayed in the Hotel Kvarner's Crystal Hall and in the Juraj Šporer Arts Pavilion. Exhibitors from Austria, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Croatia will be presenting more than 100 selected exhibits in every category of philatelic competition. However, the exhibition is only a part of the announced programme. The event will also include two conferences that will be held under the auspices of the International Philatelic Federation (FIP). The first will be dedicated to thematic philately, and the second to maximaphily. For the first time in Croatia and this part of Europe, during the Alpe-Adria Phila 2011 Opatija exhibition the congress of the Federation of European Philatelic Associations (FEPA) will also be held. The programme will also include the international meeting of philatelists, the 1st Alpe-Adria philatelic auction, a workshop aimed at young philatelists and beginners, and a presentation of numerous postal administrations. In addition to the Croatian Post, which will issue a special Alpe-Adria stamp edition, also present at the exhibition will be the postal administrations from Germany, Austria, Hungary, Albania and China. Visitors will have the opportunity to buy their latest stamps and special editions for this exhibition and Opatija.
The exhibition is jointly organised by the Croatian Philatelic Federation, the Town of Opatija, and Croatian Post as a general international philatelic 1st class exhibition. The idea was officially supported by the officially supported by the Federation of European Philatelic Associations (FEPA), and the whole event will be held under the auspices of Croatia's President, Prof. Dr. Sc. Ivo Josipović.
