Exploring nature by bike
The resort of Matulji, set in the rolling green hills of Kvarner only two kilometres from Opatija, is a perfect place to start exploring the 130 kilometres of biking trails in this area. What a great way to learn more about this charming and interesting region!
The municipality of Matulji has published a map of hiking and biking trails that are divided in four categories according to difficulty – green, blue, red and black. If you need guidance, the Matulji Tourist Board will provide expert guides who will not only show you the way, but will also inform you about natural and historical landmarks along the trails.
Common features of all these trails include beautiful nature, plenty of recreational opportunities, a variety of natural and cultural sights, and some attractive vantage points. Not to forget the area's restaurants and taverns offering refreshment and local specialities. The starting point for these routes can be the centre of Matulji, or another location easily reachable by car (Jurdani, Permani, Rupa, Veli Brgud, Zvoneća, Rupa, Šapjane), where bikers return after these most enjoyable routes in the fresh air. It is also good to know that the Matulji area offers accommodation and some excellent restaurants and taverns, which will round off your stay in Matulji.
Matulji is located on a junction of routes coming from Italy, Slovenia, Austria, and Germany in the hinterland part of the Opatija Riviera. This area provides excellent setting to combine your seaside holiday with some cycling in nature, which is an ideal way to reduce stress, relax and restore your energy.
