International Guitar Festival kicks off an action-packed Kastav Summer of Culture

The International Guitar Festival, one of the biggest such events in this part of Croatia, will bring numerous fans of this kind of music to Kastav from the 8th to the 11th of May. As in previous years, the festival begins the packed Kastav Summer of Culture programme, which runs until the end of August.

The famous cultural event Kastav Summer of Culture, which first took place in 1992, turns the town of Kastav into the multicultural centre of the region during spring and summer months. The first programme within this year's Summer of Culture is the International Guitar Festival that will take place on several locations in the town – the Church of St. Helen and the Kastav Community Centre – from the 8th to the 11th of May.
The Guitar Festival will start with the concert by the Hungarian guitar player Zsofia Boros and the Austrian-Polish Morphing Quartet who will perform pieces entitled Buenos Dias Senor Astor. On Tuesday the 10th of May, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the concert entitled High Spirits by the Zagreb Guitar Trio (Darko Petrinjak, István Römer, Goran Listeš). The festival ends on the 11th of May with the concert of the renowned Austrian guitarist Dominic Miller entitled "The November Tour".
The town of Kastav has always been proud of its cultural heritage, and cultural events are today its most recognisable feature. Over the last centuries, this town managed to preserve a great part of its cultural and historical monuments and traditions which today represent its attraction. Every new generation of people in Kastav added something new to this mosaic. Today Kastav boasts a rich musical heritage, and the local cultural scene gave birth to the events that are today among the best summer festivals in the region. The Kastav Summer of Culture was established in 1992, and the Guitar Festival first took place in 1997.
