5th Polenta and Cheese Festival in Grobnik

For the fifth year in a row, the famous Grobnik cheese and potato polenta, traditional specialities of the Grobnik area, will be the main attractions of the Polenta and Cheese Festival that takes place on the 24th and 25th of June. The festival attracts many gourmets looking to savour traditional flavours, learn more about the area's traditions, and enjoy an interesting entertainment programme.

Does half a ton of tasty potato polenta and abundance of the delicious Grobnik cheese sound interesting enough as invitation? If yes, than make sure not to miss the 5th Polenta and Cheese Festival that will take place in Čavle, in the immediate vicinity of the town of Rijeka, on the 24th and 25th of June. This festival is dedicated to the traditional dishes of the Grobnik area that are today regarded as excellent gastronomic delicacies.
During the two days of the festival, the visitors will have the opportunity to taste many delicious specialities of the local area. The central and most attractive event of this festival will be the preparation of the polenta in a big pot. On the first day of the festival, the potato polenta will be prepared in smaller amounts, for children, and on the second day its amount will increase significantly. On this occasion, a large 700-liter cooking pot will be placed in the area behind the Čavle House of Culture, in which twenty chefs will prepare ca. 500 kg of polenta. To move such a great amount of polenta to wooden plate 3 metres in diameter, they will even use a crane. To round off this experience and to make the participants fully satisfied, the Grobnik cheese, salted fish and many other specialities of the region will be served alongside the polenta. Local musicians will make sure that the party continues until early morning hours.
The festival, organised by the Čavle and Jelenje tourism offices, will also include a presentation of various souvenirs and typical products of the region.
