From the 4th of June until the 3rd of August, the summer programme at Opatija's Open Air Theatre will turn this magnificent open-air stage into Broadway under the stars. Come to Opatija for this unique atmosphere and enjoy the excellent performances of some famous musicals.

The beginning of June will mark the start of another attractive season under the starry sky of Opatija's Open Air Theatre. The summer programme organised by the Festival Opatija company will run from the 4th of June until the 3rd of August and will include musicals, concerts, classical music, and entertainment under the starry sky.
The opening ceremony on the 4th of June will be dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the best-known orchestra from Zagreb – the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra. On this occasion, they will perform the masterpiece of the great composer Gustav Mahler, the Symphony No. 2 in C minor, "Resurrection". Four days after the opening, more precisely on the 8th of June, the stage will be reserved for the children's musical "A New Day". The musical evokes images of childhood and children's games in a small coastal village in the past and today, and will be performed by the ensemble of twenty-four singers-actors-dancers of elementary and secondary school age from Rijeka and surroundings that were selected by audition, and the same number of dancers from the dance group.
The opera Nabucco is on programme on the 24th of June. The title role will be performed by the world-famous baritone Yuri Nechaev who has performed in the Bolshoi Theatre, at the Paris Opera, la Scala Milan, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
On the next day, on the 29th of June, the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy the Croatian production of the famous musical Footloose based on the blockbuster movie from the 1980s. The film launched the careers of Kevin Bacon, Sarah Jessica Parker and John Lithgow, and the musical was a huge success on Brodway in New York and West End in London. After this follows another big movie hit – The Full Monty, performed by the Komedija Theatre from Zagreb. You are probably familiar with the story of six unemployed steel workers from Sheffield in England, so we invite you to come to Opatija and enjoy the Croatian version of this movie.
The musical "The Marathon Family" will be performed on the 14th of July by the actors from the Pozorište na Terazijama Theatre in Belgrade (Serbia). This will be followed by another blockbuster musical – "West Side Story" performed by the Brno City Theatre from the Czech Republic.
In "The Russian Cossacks" show on the 31st of July, members of one of the leading professional dance ensembles in Russia consisting of ca. fifty experienced world-class dancers, musicians and singers, will present the acrobatic skills of the Cossacks dances.
The programme will end on the 3rd of August with the performance of a musical dream duo, Macedonian guitarist Vlatko Stefanovski and Serbian violinist Stefan Milenković, who joined their forces and virtuosity for a musical spectacular entitled "Magic of the Strings".
