Festival Kvarner
Programme for June

Festival Kvarner continues in June with several classical music concerts in Opatija. After the opening ceremony in April with Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and Dvořák's String Serenade in E major, the concerts in June will continue in a similar style.

This June, Opatija's most beautiful concert venue, Hotel Kvarner's Crystal Hall, will again be the meeting point for the lovers of classical music. Concerts within the Festival Kvarner programme continue to present some of the most popular pieces by Europe's greatest composers performed by some of the most distinguished young European artists.
The first of the three concerts announced for this month is scheduled for the 3rd of June. It will include pieces by Mozart, Liszt and Schumann performed by one of Croatia's most talented young musicians, the piano player Martina Filjak. The concert will start with Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 13, continue with Liszt's Ballade No. 2 in B minor, and end with Robert Schumann's Faschingsschwank aus Wien op. 26.
The second concert, which will take place on the 21st of June in Lovran's Villa Astra, will be performed by young European musicians – violinist Vanessa Szigeti and Guillaume Vincent on piano. They will perform three pieces – the Sonata No. 1 in D major op. 12 by Ludwig van Beethoven, the Sonata No. 1 in G major op. 78 by Johannes Brahms, and Debussy's Sonata in G minor.
This month's last concert is scheduled for the 25th of June and will be performed by the popular all-European PurPur Orchestra, a cooperation between Festival Kvarner, Opatija and the European PurPur project – the European Sound Interchange. On this concert, perspective European musicians will perform Haydn's Symphony No. 6 Le matin and Armida Overture, Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 in C major op. 21, and Allegro Appassionato op 43. by Camille Saint Saens.
After that, the festival continues in the autumn: the first concert is announced for the 6th of September.
