Town of Krk
Summer events for all age groups
From the 8th of July until the 25th of August, several of the most attractive historical sites in the town of Krk will host the 55th Summer Festival, a traditional event that includes a series of concerts and theatrical performances. However, this is just one part of what the town has to offer visitors this summer!
The town of Krk – the town of history and culture – this year again, from the 8th of July until the 25th of August, will host the performances of numerous renowned Croatian artists, singers, musicians and actors. Lovers of classical music will have the opportunity to enjoy concerts aimed at presenting and promoting the rich musical legacy of Nikola Udino Algarotti, a well-known priest and collector from Krk. Almost two hundred years ago, he left to his town some valuable and rare musical instruments and numerous musical notations from the beginning of the 19th century. The value of this collection is reflected in the fact that it was declared cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia.
The summer festival will be opened on the 8th of July with the concert by the Croatian Baroque Ensemble entitled "Suite, sonata, concert". Many prominent Croatian musicians will have the opportunity to play music related to Algarotti's legacy, which will be particularly interesting for all lovers of this type of classical music. Apart from that, the summer programme will include theatrical performances by the theatres Gavran, Exit, Rugatino etc.
As in previous years, the town of Krk did not forget its child audience. Children will have the opportunity to enjoy performances of the Ivana Brlić Mažuranić Children Theatre, the Exit Theatre, and the Svarožići Children's Theatre Group. The festival will culminate in a charity concert of traditional vocal groups – klape.
However, the summer festival is just a part of what the town of Krk has to offer this summer. To begin with, the 486th Krk Fair will take place from the 8th to the 10th of August. This event encompasses several interesting and original programmes, such as the medieval fair on the Kamplin Square, an ecological fair and exhibition of handicrafts, a naval battle and a treasure hunt, entertainment programmes at three different locations, and a specially designed gastronomic programme based exclusively on original dishes of the island of Krk and from other parts of Croatia.
As always, this event is aimed at promoting original products of the island of Krk and Croatia, which make the basis of this unique tourism offer.
For sport enthusiasts, we recommend the Croatia Open 2011 international orienteering championship on the 14th of July, the international beach volley tournament on the 23rd and 24th of July, and the 6th Town of Krk Cup shore fishing competition on the 24th of July.
On the 15th of August, the Krk Bay will for the fourteenth time in a row be the venue of the Krk Sails sailing regatta, which includes a regatta of traditional sailing boats, and a cruiser regatta.
