2nd World Youth Bridge Championship
For the third year in a row, Opatija is to host a large international bridge competition. This time, it's the 2nd World Youth Championship, which will take place from the 21st to the 30th of August, attracting more than 450 bridge players from all over the world. Judging by the experience of previous years, after the championship is over, many of the players will remain around Kvarner to enjoy a good holiday.
As it seems, Opatija is becoming an increasingly important international bridge destination. For the third year in a row, Opatija is hosting large international bridge competitions. In 2009, it was the European University Youth Championship, last year it was the European Pairs Youth Competition, and this year it will be the 2nd World Youth Congress, which will take place in Opatija from the 21st to the 30th of August. According to the organiser, the Opatija Bridge Sports Club, more than 450 participants are expected to take part in this event. The competitions in three main categories (two for men and one for women) will take place in the properties of Opatija's Milenij hotel group. Apart from players and coaches, the event will be attended by numerous guests, representatives of national bridge associations, and high officials from the World Bridge Federation and the European Bridge League. They will all stay in Opatija for at least ten days during the championship, but some of them will certainly remain here to enjoy holidays in this famous tourist resort.
Numerous players from all over the world (Australia, USA, Venezuela, Japan, Sweden, Ireland, France, Turkey…) have already confirmed their arrival to the championship. It is important to say that many of them already know Opatija from earlier competitions.
It is no accident that this internationally important championship is organised in Opatija by its Bridge sports Club: after the aforementioned European championships, Opatija strengthened its position as a bridge destination. The upcoming event should also be an overture for the organisation of the World Pairs Bridge Championship in 2013, which is a great wish of the organisers. During such an event, which lasts for 15 days, the destination is visited by more than 3,000 participants from all over the world.
