Osor Musical Nights
Summer festival of classical music

The Osor Musical Nights festival of classical music, which has been taking place in Osor Cathedral since 1976, continues this summer until the end of August. The programme will include some of the highlights of the Croatian musical production – from well-known compositions to ca. twenty premieres!

Until the 18th of August, visitors to Osor, a well-known tourist resort on the island of Cres, can enjoy a series of concerts of classical music that take place almost every day within the Osor Musical Nights festival in the town's cathedral. The festival, renowned as a meeting place of Croatian musicians and composers, is particularly interesting for the fact that, in addition to performances of well-known compositions, it always includes many premieres. The first Osor Musical Nights took place in 1976, and ever since, the festival has been known as an event that promotes Croatian authors and their music.
This year's, 36th edition of the festival started earlier this July, but if you are interested in this kind of music, you still have time to come here and enjoy some beautiful concerts. More information is available at www.osorskeveceri.hr. The programme for August includes ca. ten performances by various artists – instrumentalists, singers and even traditional Croatian singing groups – klape.

The premiere programme in August will include ca. twenty concerts of contemporary Croatian music; the same number of premiere concerts took place in July.

Osor is located on the island of Cres, right at the spot that in the past used to connect the islands of Cres and Lošinj. Administratively, Osor belongs to the town of Mali Lošinj. Osor is known as the "small eternal town", which attests to its importance in the past. Traces of the past, some dating back more than 4000 years, can be found at every step. Particularly worth mentioning is the town's cathedral, the Church of the Assumption of Mary, which used to be the centre of the former Osor Diocese from the 6th until the beginning of the 19th century. Today, this church and the neighbouring town squares make the impressive venue for concerts within the Osor Musical Nights festival.
