Kastav Blues Festival
Holiday to the rhythms of blues

The towns of Kastav, Viškovo, Matulji and Čavle will be the venues of the 4th Kastav Blues Festival, which will take place from the 4th to the 8th of August. In addition to several renowned Croatian musicians, the festival will include performances by some of the world's greatest blues artists – from Angela Brown to Larry Miller. Shortly afterwards, Kastav will play host to another artistic event – the traditional Art workshop dedicated to painting.

This summer, Kvarner’s small towns of Kastav, Viškovo, Matulji and Čavle will be the venues of the 4th Kastav Blues Festival that will take place from the 4th to the 8th of August and include performances of some of the world’s greatest blues musicians. The festival was established in 2008 in honour of Philadelphia Jerry Ricks, one of the most prominent exponents of traditional country-blues. He was also one of the last real links with the first generation of blues musicians, and he chose Kastav as his final resting place. Since its beginning, the Kastav Blues Festival has grown into a renowned musical event that includes performances by some of the most prominent blues musicians to the joy of the festival’s numerous visitors.
This year’s Kastav Blues Festival will start on the 4th of August in Čavle with the concert of Croatia’s popular blues musician, winner of many prestigious awards, Tomislav Goluban accompanied by the band Little Pigeon's For Hill Blues. On the second day, the festival moves to Matulji, which will host the concert of another Croatian star – the singer Zdenka Kovačiček with her band. After midnight, the festival continues in Kastav with the concert by Eddie Martin, one of Britain’s most talented blues guitar players and singers.
On Saturday, the third day of the festival, the programme will take place only in Kastav. The concert that starts at 8.30 p.m. at Kastav’s Fortica will include performances by the Crossroads Blues Band feat. Angela Brown and Jimmy Thomas, Keith Dunn, Rick Franklin and Michael Roach.
Sunday is reserved for the concert of the popular British group King King in Viškovo. This will be the first Croatian concert for this band, regarded by many as the most attractive blues rock band from the UK.
On the last day, the festival moves again to Kastav, where the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy two excellent concerts: the Larry Miller Band and Elizabeth Lee's Cosmic Mojo.
The Kastav Blues Festival will also include afternoon musical workshops by Michael Roach in Ronjgi (Viškovo), and several exhibitions of paintings and photographs on various locations in Kastav. The first exhibition is “Fish Happens“ by Marin Krstulović in the Guitar Café, and the second is the exhibition of blues, jazz and rock portraits entitled “Blues For You & Me“ in the Café Bar “Loža“ by Mr. Jazz – Božidar Milinović, who celebrates his 20th artistic anniversary with this exhibition.
Five days after the end of the Kastav Blues Festival, this town will again be the venue of an artistic event. On the 13th of August, the lanes and squares in the old town of Kastav will play host to the 9th Arts Workshop, and event that will encompass a series of exhibitions and artistic competitions with works of various genres – painting, graphics, drawings, sculptures, design, applied arts, photographs, and ex tempore works with motifs of Kastav. With the beginning at 8 p.m., the Crekvina square will host the auction of paintings and concert of the painter Claudio Frank with his guests Natalia Marycheva and Esperanza Claudia Frank.
