International art colony
Mošćenički pinel 2011

From the 20th to the 27th of August, the small hilltop town of Mošćenice, one of the best preserved medieval towns on Kvarner, will, for the third year in a row, be transformed into an open-air art gallery thanks to the large international art colony Mošćenički pinel 2011.

When a small medieval town, which by itself looks like an open-air museum, hosts a large art colony, with works of art displayed on some of the town’s most beautiful locations, this is undoubtedly a guarantee of an unforgettable artistic experience. This is the best description of the event that will soon take place in Mošćenice, one of the best-preserved hilltop towns on Kvarner: the 3rd Mošćenički pinel international art colony, which is scheduled for the period between the 20th and the 27th of August.
The colony will take place on various sites of the town – on ancient stone steps, squares, Kosnica (one of the most beautiful vantage points in the whole Kvarner region), within ancient walls of the Kaštel, in front of the small church of St. Bartul etc. During the event, the entire old town will be transformed into an art workshop for artists from various countries whose works will present their experience of this medieval town. The central theme of this year's art colony are "Mošćenice Dreams" – the participants will present their dreams in their own ways.
The Mošćenički pinel 2011 festival starts on Saturday the 20th of August at 7 p.m. with the opening of the exhibition of the works by the participants of the colony in the ground floor of the Kaštel. At the opening, each participant will be given canvases on which they will depict their artistic experience of Mošćenice during this 7-day event. The new works will be displayed at the exhibition that will remain open from the last day of the colony (27th of August) until the 10th of September. This year's colony will be attended by two local artists and many guests from abroad – from Italy, Germany, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegowina, and Austria.
The art colony will also be open to children, who will have the opportunity to participate in two creative workshops dedicated to the same subject. This programme is called "Mošćenički pinelići 2011", and it will take place on the 23rd and 25th of August. Children will work in different techniques (collage, stone painting, use of natural materials etc.) to previously defined subjects. Last year's children's workshops were attended by ca. 80 children, which additionally enriched their stay in this area.
The colony is organised by the Work Group for Cultural Tourism of the Čakavian Association (Katedra Čakavskog sabora) of the Municipality of Mošćenička Draga with the help of the Mošćenička Draga Tourist Board, the Municipality of Mošćenička Draga, and the Italian Community of Mošćenička Draga.
