Opatija's sweetest souvenir
Delicious taste of Opatija's Camellia cake

Since this July, visitors to Opatija can take home with them a very special memory of Kvarner and probably the sweetest souvenir of Opatija – the original cake called "Opatija's Camellia". The ingredients of this speciality are not only delicious, but also suitable for long-time preservation, so you can take this cake back home with you wherever you live…

This July, the famous tourist resort of Opatija has got its own sweet souvenir – a cake prepared to an original recipe called "Opatija's Camellia". The cake is distinguished for its unique fruity taste, while some additional secret ingredients add a characteristic Mediterranean flavour.
The cake was designed by Opatija's artist Yasna Skorup Krneta, who is also the president of the Iginio Scarpa Camellia Fans Association. This recipe perfectly combines gastronomy and the image of Opatija, a town renowned for its well-tended parks and gardens distinguished for indispensable camellias, into a new original souvenir. This was the basic idea, which was then put into practice by conditioners from the hotels Milenij, Bristol and Imperial. The cake can be bought in these hotels in the original packaging at a price of ca. 20 euros. The "Opatija's Camellia" cake is made from figs, almonds, oranges, raisins, chocolate and marzipan, and shaped to remind a camellia flower.
Opatija has a long tradition as a town of camellias. The first camellias were brought here as early as 1894 and planted in the garden surrounding Iginio Scarpa's Villa Angiolina. Since then, the camellia flower has become a symbol of Opatija. Camellias can be found in many Opatija's gardens; in recent years, camellia has been the motif of several artistic and gastronomic exhibitions. The idea is to make camellia a recognisable Opatija's brand, and this delicious cake will definitely help in achieving this aim.
