After the long, hot August, Viškovo is now busy preparing for its central summer event – the Matejna Festival, which traditionally brings together the inhabitants of this area who all contribute to this unique event. This year's Matejna Festival is scheduled to run from the 21st to the 25th of September. Many visitors and lots of fun are guaranteed!

With summer slowly coming to an end, Viškovo is now preparing for its main event of the season – the Matejna Festival, traditionally organised to mark the feast day of St. Matej (Matthew), patron saint of the town. This year's, 19th edition of the festival, which has long become much more than just a local event, will take place from the 21st to the 25th of September.
During the four days of the festival, various associations from the local area will present their activities at different locations in Viškovo. The programme will include a big fair, handicraft and food exhibitions, majorettes performances, various cultural, artistic, entertainment and sporting events, dance and evening concerts by popular Croatian musicians. For the duration of the festival, local bars and restaurants will work longer than usually, offering visitors their best specialities. Viškovo is renowned for its excellent gastronomy characterised by delicious original specialities prepared in traditional or modern ways, including various game and meat dishes.
The first evening of the festival will be dedicated to bell-ringers from the Halubje area, the Halubajski zvončari, famous figures of the local carnival. The closing evening will pay tribute to the great composer and musical teacher who played an important role in preserving the local musical tradition, Ivan Matetić Ronjgov. This event, locally called the Matinjada pul Ronjgi, will take place for the fourth year in the row in his birth house in Viškovo. Thanks to the effort by several enthusiasts, and considering the fact that the "Two-part singing and playing in the Istrian scale" has been added to the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Matinjada pul Ronjgi has gained great popularity and continues to attract many visitors to Viškovo every year.
