Excellent statistics for the island of Lošinj
1.5 million overnights by mid-August

At the end of July, a few days earlier than last year, the island of Lošinj celebrated its one-millionth tourist overnight stay with a large fireworks display. The number of visitors has increased by as much as 16 per cent, which confirms that this attractive all-year-round destination has found the perfect formula for fun and relaxation. Attractive programmes continue in September…

One millionth overnight stay on the island of Lošinj was celebrated at the end of July with a big concert, fireworks, prize draws for visitors, entertainment programme for children, and performances by the Lošinj majorettes and the Josip Kašman wind orchestra. This was a great opportunity to present this island's excellent results in tourism: during the first six month of this year, the number of overnight stays has increased by 16 per cent compared to the last year. This positive trend has continued until present, and the number of overnights has reached a total of 1.5 million by mid-August. This is a result of the quality destination management and excellent collaboration among the Mali Lošinj Tourism Office, hotel owners, campsites, tourist agencies and local people, and the continuous introduction of new, original projects that make this destination interesting throughout the year.
The programme continues in September too. The beginning of the month will be dedicated to Lošinj's beneficial climate that made this destination so widely popular. The 12th Course on Natural Healing Factors "Health Destination" will take place in Veli Lošinj from the 2nd to the 4th of September. The participants will have the chance to acquire a variety of practical and theoretical knowledge and skills about improving the quality of everyday life. In addition to theoretical part (this project includes participation of the members of the Croatian Academy of Medical Sciences, the Croatian Medical Association, and the Veli Lošinj Sanatorium), the participants will have the chance to take part in many practical trainings.
Later this September, visitors to Lošinj will have the opportunity to visit the popular Fragrant Festivals offering various traditional products of the island (olive oil, honey, liqueurs, marmalades etc.) and original souvenirs. This month's first Fragrant Festival will take place on the 1st of September in Nerezine, and the next two will take place in Mali Lošinj on the 7th and 14th of September.
Visitors are also invited to the "Gathering at Haračić's" art workshops that will take place in the cove of Čikat on the 11th, 18th and 25th of September. The name of the workshop reveals its location – next to the monument to the famous botanist from Lošinj, Ambroz Haračić (1855-1916).
Art lovers will have the chance to visit several exhibitions in Lošinj's galleries and museums, and those interested in sailing should not miss the big Traditional Sailboats Regatta that will take place on the 17th of September near Nerezine. If you decide to stay on the island until the beginning of October, we recommend visiting another attractive all-day event – Arbunada, dedicated to the ancient way of fishing sea bream (common pandora) with bare hands from the boat. This is the only preserved example of such tradition in the entire Adriatic.
