Viennese Week in Opatija
Week of the Viennese cuisine and the big Viennese Ball

On the 24th of September, Opatija will become the centre of a true Viennese fairy-tale. Evoking the Austro-Hungarian tradition, Opatija will again host the charity Viennese Ball. This will be the culmination of the Viennese Week that will take place from the 19th to the 25th of September. During the festival, visitors will have the chance to enjoy some of the finest specialities of Viennese cuisine.

Under the auspices of the City of Vienna and the Town of Opatija, in the period from the 19th to the 25th of September Opatija will host a Viennese Week, which will culminate in a charity Viennese Ball on the 24th of September in Hotel Kvarner's Crystal Hall. In addition to the ball, the event will include the Week of Viennese Cuisine, which will take place from the 19th to the 25th of September in Opatija's Sv. Jakov restaurant.
During the Week of Viennese Cuisine, the restaurant will offer typical Viennese dishes every day from noon until midnight – the famous Wiener Schnitzel, the Parmesanschöberlsuppe (soup with Parmesan cheese dumplings), Fiaker Gulasch (similar to the Hungarian goulash) and many more. In addition, Opatija's cafés Grand, Wagner, Palme and Imperial will serve typical Viennese sweets such as the famous Sachertorte and various sorts of coffee.
This will be a fine gastronomic introduction to the gala ball, which is not only charitable, but also of a great importance for the relation between Opatija and Vienna. Since Opatija in Austro-Hungarian times was a popular all-year health destination for ladies and gentlemen from Vienna, the aristocratic charm and the rich shared history still today connect these two towns. For this very reason, this ball is sponsored by the City of Vienna, and the programme will be characterised by an aristocratic atmosphere. The ball will begin with the performance of the “Schmidtschläger” Viennese dance school and the “Original Wiener Strauss Capelle” orchestra.
The programme will continue with sampling gastronomic specialities and dancing, a magnificent fireworks display, torchlights, tombola and sampling of Viennese wines. The ball will end at 2:30 a.m., and will be followed by an After Party in Opatija's Hemingway Bar.
Ticket price for the Viennese Ball is 50 euros.
