April events in Opatija and Lovran
Coffee Break Festival and Asparagus Festival

In addition to the Wellness Open Days Programme, Days of Cherries, Festival of Chocolate and other traditional events, this year Opatija's Hotel Ambasador hosts for the first time the new event called the Coffee Break Festival on Friday the 4th and Saturday the 5th of April. The Asparagus Festival begins on the same weekend in Lovran.

The Coffee Break Festival is an event that brings together people and companies involved in coffee production and coffee lovers.

Visitors will be able to learn more about the process of producing coffee from roasting to tasting, take part in coffee preparation workshops, watch the competition of best barmen who are specialised in the professional making of espresso, visit the Coffee and Celebrities exhibition, sample coffee, and participate in the event called Coffee and Book.

This new event will fill Opatija with the enchanting scents of coffee and will certainly attract more visitors to this town.

Immediately after the Coffee Break Festival, in the neighbouring town of Lovran begins the 8th Asparagus Festival that will last until the 13th of April. During that time, catering establishments in Lovran will offer specialities made of this wild-growing plant, and the closing ceremony will include the making of “giant scrambled eggs with asparagus” consisting of 1000 eggs and 30 kg of asparagus in a 2-meter pan. The Festival also includes a varied ethno-programme with folklore, a concert of Liburnia's accordion players, and the Asparagus Cup bocce tournament.

The beginning of June in Lovran and its surrounding is traditionally dedicated to the Days of Cherries. During that period, the cafes and restaurants in Lovran, as well as many market stalls on Lovran's main square (Trg slobode) offer cherries, cakes and other dishes made of these juicy fruits upon traditional recipes. The event also includes entertainment programmes.
