November and December in the rhythm of the traditional potresujka dance

If you happen to be in Matulji or elsewhere on the Opatija Riviera in November or December, you may consider joining a very special dance school – the Matulji School of Potresujka, a traditional dance of the local area. This year, the dance school takes place for the seventh time in a row.

The seventh Potresujka Dance School, dedicated to the traditional dance of the Matulji area, will take place in Matulji every Saturday in November and December. The last session on the 17th of December will include a certificates ceremony and sampling original dishes of the area. With the aim of preserving this tradition for future, a TV documentary will be made this year about the dance and the school.

Potresujka is a simple dance with a few simple basic steps, whose origin is still disputed. The basic steps – two quick and one slow – can be combined in different variations, and the dancers always add something on their own, which makes this dance very creative and original.

In the last years, the Matulji Potresujka Dance School was attended by more than 3000 participants, who made this dance very popular on the entire Opatija Riviera and in the wider area.
