Bundevijada Pumpkin Festival in Vrbovsko
"How we used to live in the past..."
How would you like to swap urban stress and the daily routine for two days in an idyllic rural atmosphere? If yes, we recommend visiting the traditional Bundevijada Pumpkin Festival in Vrbovsko on the 8th and 9th of October, where you will encounter an entirely different world – the world of Gorski kotar's rich heritage and delicious pumpkin specialities...
The packed two-day programme of the traditional Bundevijada Pumpkin Festival, which this year takes place on the 8th and 9th of October in Gorski kotar's small town of Vrbovsko, will again present local heritage and various specialities made with pumpkins. For the seventh year in a row, the festival will celebrate autumn fruits, old customs and handicrafts, and present local producers of home-made specialities, products and souvenirs. On both days, the programme starts at 10 a.m. and last until 6.30 p.m. and includes various acting, singing and dancing performances designed to present old customs and traditions from Gorski kotar and other Croatian areas.
Since this is the seventh edition of the festival, the organisers always try to offer something new. This year, the programme will include taking a so-called millennium photograph, which will represent a stylised pumpkin. The Millennium Photograph is a popular project by the famous Croatian photographer Šime Strikoman aimed at bringing together as many people as possible and taking photographs on a given subject. Since the organisers expect many people at this year's Bundevijada, including at least 50 exhibitors, the Vrbovsko Tourist Board is confident that the millennium photograph of the "pumpkin" will be very successful.
The festival will also include the selection of the largest, smallest and most interesting pumpkin, the best dish, the best dessert, and the best stand of the festival.
The programme will take place in the House of Culture in Vrbovsko. Visitors will also have the chance to see an improvised traditional house of the Gorski kotar area – an important part of the local heritage.
