From 27 March until 25 October, the cities of Rijeka and Köln in Germany will be connected by the flights of the Germanwings low-cost company. Flights will be available three times a week (on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays), and the tickets have been available at affordable rates already since mid-January.
Rijeka is the sixth Croatian town that has been connected to Germany and Europe through the German Germanwings company. Over the last eight years, this low-cost airline has connected Zagreb, Split, Zadar, Dubrovnik and Pula, and from now on Rijeka, more precisely, the Rijeka Airport on the island of Krk. However, this is not the only low-cost airline whose aircrafts land on Kvarner. Last year collaboration was started with Ryanair, whose aircrafts connect Rijeka with London and Stockholm.
Since the final flight schedule for 2012 has not been defined yet, representatives of the Rijeka Airport said that there is still room for some news and the confirmation of the existing regular and charter airlines from numerous European destinations that should have their flights to Kvarner in 2012.
It should be emphasised that Rijeka is also connected to London and Barcelona by the aircrafts of the national air company Croatia Airlines. According to the plans of this company, flights from London (LRH) to Rijeka start in mid-April and will be available once a week until mid-October. Flights from Barcelona will also be available once a week in the period from May until September.
