MTB Učka Marathon – a World Championship race
Lovran and Učka to host the world's best cyclists

This year, the leaders of the World Cycling Federation have given a great boost to the traditional Kvarner MTB Učka Marathon by listing it among the 10 top UCI Mountain Bike Marathon Series races, which will also count towards the World Cycling Championship. Therefore we announce an important date – 29 July, the day of the Učka mountain bike race!

This year, the traditional MTB Učka Marathon mountain bike race, together with other nine races, has been listed in the calendar of the UCI Mountain Bike Marathon Series, and will be scored for this year's World Championship. The marathon will take on 29 July. Having in mind the new reputation of this race, the organisers expect an even greater attendance than before. This will be the seventh marathon organised by the members of the Marun Mountain Bike Club from Lovran. Thanks to the fact that Učka Marathon has now been listed in the UCI calendar, we can conclude that Lovran has got not only the most important MTB race in Croatia, but also in the wider area. It is expected that the race will bring together several hundred cyclists who will compete in several categories.
UCI Mountain Bike Marathon Series is a relatively new series of mountain bike races that take place all over the world. The fact that the Učka marathon has been listed among top 10 events is an additional reason for cyclists not to miss this race. In addition, the first 50 will have direct entry to the World Championship, which will take place on 7 October in Ornans in France.
Apart from its new appeal, the MTB Učka Marathon has always been considered particularly attractive due to its unique combination of urban, coastal and mountain landscapes.
The marathon starts and ends in the centre of Lovran, at the elevation of 0 metres above sea level. The highest point of this 90-kilometre race is at an elevation of 1200 metres above sea level. What is most important, the total ascent is 4,200 metres, which makes Učka MTB Marathon one of the most attractive and most demanding races in the world. According to some expectations, required time for the entire route is about four hours, but those in particularly good shape could make it in three hours.
Although this professional part sounds very interesting for the spectators, we must emphasise that there will be other races on the same day suitable for recreational cyclists, veterans, and even juniors.
