I Love Kvarner
Care for the environment

By supporting the national initiative “Volim Hrvatsku” (I Love Croatia), managed by the Croatian Tourism Board, the Kvarner County Tourism Board will start 150 ecological actions in the period from March until September with the aim of creating preconditions for an even more enjoyable stay for guests, educating children from the earliest age, and improving the ecological awareness of local people and their guests.

The aim of this action is to encourage all legal entities – from tourism boards to local government – to protect and improve tourist areas and the natural environment. The actions involve local people, school pupils, alpine clubs, sport societies, diving clubs, voluntary fire brigades and many more. The actions will be carried out in several areas, including removing rubbish from the seabed in harbours and beaches. The actions will also include removing rubbish from various public areas, riverbeds and footpaths, erecting signposts and creating new paths, and installing benches to sit down on and rubbish bins. Local people will be given the opportunity to buy seedlings at discounted rates or even get them for free in order to make their gardens, parks and balconies more attractive. This part also includes a competition for the best parks, balconies and terraces of restaurants and cafes. Besides that there will be many more actions that should contribute to a more enjoyable stay for guests on Kvarner’s islands, on the coast and in the mountains.
An important part of this initiative is the education of children in kindergartens and schools including lectures, awards for the best children's drawings on ecological subjects, and the distribution of educational materials.
In addition to these continuous ecological initiatives, individual tourism offices will be celebrating other special dates, such as the first day of spring, Earth Day (22nd April), World Environment Day (5th June) and the Day of Clean Mountains (23rd September).
