Rijeka Carnival
The biggest party in this part of Europe!

The 25th Rijeka Carnival, now recognised as the biggest party in this part of Europe, will take place from the 17th of January until the 3rd of February 2008. As always, we expect numerous guests from all over the world and, of course, a great time here in Rijeka!

The Carnival, often known locally as the “5th season of the year”, starts on the 17th of January with the hoisting of the Carnival Flag. One day later, on the 18th of January, at the Miss Carnival Contest, the town keys are traditionally handed over to the representatives of the Carnival.

The carnival city government, eagerly supported by the inhabitants of Rijeka and the region as a whole, organises many events, festivals and exhibitions, including the Carnival Rally Pariz-Bakar (a town in the immediate vicinity of Rijeka, whose name is reminiscent of the legendary Paris-Dakar rally), and the especially popular Children’s Carnival Parade on Saturday, the 26th of January. The highlight of the Rijeka Carnival is of course the magnificent International Carnival Parade through the centre of the town on Sunday, the 3rd of February. During that time, Rijeka is the meeting place of imaginative carnival groups from Croatia and abroad and – most importantly – is a place where every one will be certain to have a great time!

The Rijeka Carnival has long been internationally renowned for and recognised as being one of the most significant European and international carnival events. It is regarded as one of the “Top 500 European Events”, and the Sunday Times has listed it as one of the world’s most exotic events of January.
The most important events during the carnival are organised by the Town of Rijeka Tourism Office.
